About
Jaye Fishel is a Somatic Experiencing® practitioner (SEP), California-certified massage therapist and craniosacral therapist with an office in Echo Park, Los Angeles, who also sees clients online worldwide. Their practice centers on adults who grew up with emotional neglect, relational trauma or C-PTSD, using present-moment attention to the body to move out of survival mode, with light-touch craniosacral work and Somatic Touch available as an option and never a requirement.
Trained in the Upledger lineage (CST-T / CST-D).
Background

Jaye Fishel came to somatic work through their own life. They lost their mother to brain cancer at twelve, and describe spending years afterwards in a lonely survival loop they could not think their way out of, working hard to appear fine while carrying a sense that some wounds were simply too large and deep to resolve.
What changed things, in their telling, was Somatic Experiencing. They did not need to be fixed; their body needed to learn a new language with the right support. Through SE they learned to stay steady with sensations that had once felt overwhelming, and they describe that shift as a second chance at life. It became the foundation of the work they now offer.
Jaye completed the three-year Somatic Experiencing® practitioner training in 2021, studying with teachers including Peter Levine, Gary Strauss, Berns Galloway and Mahshid Hager, with Shel Rasch as their mentor. Alongside SE they trained as a massage therapist at IPSB Culver City, took Kathy Kain’s Somatic Touch training for trauma therapists, and developed advanced craniosacral skills in the Upledger tradition, including craniosacral unwinding. They also assist at Somatic Experiencing trainings across the United States.
An East Coast transplant (New Jersey by way of Florida), Jaye has called California home since 2005 and comes from a creative background as a printmaker and book artist. They are queer, use any pronouns, and describe their practice as anti-racist, queer-affirming and sex-positive. They also offer pro bono sessions through Free Clinic NYC, a group of therapists and organizers working for accessible care.

Adults who survived childhood emotional neglect, relational trauma or C-PTSD · Healers and Somatic Experiencing students · Creatives and artists · Chronic illness and pain · Surgical and medical recovery · Psychedelic and ketamine integration · Near-death experience support
Childhood emotional neglect, relational trauma and C-PTSD
- Jaye’s central focus is adults who grew up in emotionally turbulent, neglectful or abusive homes, including people who do not recognize that label for themselves. Sessions pay attention to patterns Jaye names as hyper-independence, emotional flooding, emotional blunting and shutdown, persistent guilt and perfectionism.
Healers and Somatic Experiencing students
- Therapists, physical therapists, bodyworkers and other helpers who want a place to be on the receiving end of support. Jaye is an approved personal-session provider at the Intermediate level, so sessions count toward Somatic Experiencing® certification requirements, and offers special rates to SE students.
Creatives and artists
- Musicians, writers, visual artists and filmmakers dealing with burnout, freeze or creative blocks. Jaye, a printmaker and book artist themselves, works on nervous-system regulation rather than motivation.
Chronic illness and pain navigators
- People living with conditions such as chronic fatigue, autoimmune illness, EDS, MS or IBS, and those still looking for a diagnosis. Jaye describes work that never pushes through pain: sessions can be seated, reclined, online, with the camera off or from bed, and touch is always optional.
Surgical and medical recovery
- Preparation and recovery support around elective, life-saving or gender-affirming procedures, organized as a six-session path with three sessions before and three after. It works with medical anxiety, loss of agency in medical settings and how the body settles afterwards.
Medicine journey integration
- Preparation and integration around ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, psilocybin, MDMA or ayahuasca experiences, also as a six-session set. Jaye states that they do not provide, prescribe or sit for substance sessions.
Near-death experience and altered-state support
- A two-hour intensive session ($400) for integrating a near-death experience, medical crisis or other non-ordinary state. It is open to clients who have completed at least six sessions with Jaye first.

Questions about working with Jaye Fishel
What does Jaye Fishel offer in Los Angeles?
Jaye Fishel offers Somatic Experiencing® and craniosacral therapy to adults, in person at an office in Echo Park, Los Angeles, and online worldwide. Their focus is adults who survived emotionally turbulent, neglectful or abusive childhoods, along with healers, creatives, people living with chronic illness, and people recovering from surgery or a near-death experience. Fully clothed Somatic Touch and craniosacral work are available in person if a client wants them.
How much does a session with Jaye Fishel cost?
A 60-minute session is $200. A 6-session package is $1,110 ($185 per session, used within 3 months) and a 12-session package is $2,100 ($175 per session, used within 6 months, with payment plans available). A two-hour intensive session for near-death experience and altered-state integration is $400 and is open to clients who have completed at least six sessions. A 15-minute connection call is free, and a limited number of reduced-rate spaces are held for people who need financial assistance. These are the rates on Jaye’s own website as read on 30 September 2026; confirm them before booking.
Does Jaye Fishel take insurance?
Jaye does not bill insurance directly, but can provide a superbill that clients can submit to their insurer for reimbursement. Whether a plan reimburses out-of-network somatic or bodywork sessions depends on the plan.
Do I have to be touched in a session?
No. Jaye says touch is an option and never a requirement. Sessions can be entirely conversational, tracking sensations in the body, either in person or online. Where a client wants it, in-person sessions can include fully clothed, light-touch Somatic Touch and craniosacral work, and clients may sit in a chair or recline on a table.
What is craniosacral therapy, and how does Jaye Fishel use it?
Jaye describes craniosacral therapy as a gentle, light-touch approach that follows the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid. They trained in the Upledger tradition and offer it in person alongside Somatic Experiencing, focused on stuck points in areas such as the joints, gut and fascia. This directory does not claim that craniosacral therapy treats any condition.
How is Somatic Experiencing different from talk therapy?
Jaye contrasts top-down approaches, which lean on analysis and the story of what happened, with Somatic Experiencing, which they describe as bottom-up: attention goes to sensation, impulses and nervous-system responses in the present moment. Jaye says many clients find it complements years of talk therapy. Somatic Experiencing® is a trauma-focused approach developed by Peter Levine, one of Jaye’s teachers.
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
No. Jaye says sessions focus on what is happening in the body now rather than a detailed account of the past, and move in small steps so that clients are not overwhelmed. A session typically starts with a check-in on goals and then moves into tracking sensations in the present.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Jaye suggests weekly or bi-weekly sessions to begin with, and says most clients work together for about three to six months. Someone new can start with a single 60-minute session, or choose a 6- or 12-session package if they already know they want to commit.
Are online sessions as good as in-person sessions?
Jaye says they are, and offers online sessions to clients anywhere in the world. Online work relies on voice, facial expression and shared presence rather than touch, and is well suited to people with demanding schedules or chronic illness, or who feel most at ease at home.
Where is Jaye Fishel’s office, and which neighborhoods do they serve?
The office is in Echo Park, Los Angeles (2209 Valentine St, Los Angeles, CA 90026, per the practice’s Google listing). Jaye serves clients across Los Angeles, including Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Atwater Village, Highland Park and Eagle Rock, and online from anywhere.
Is Jaye Fishel’s practice queer-affirming?
Yes. Jaye is queer, uses any pronouns, and describes their work as anti-racist, queer-affirming and sex-positive, with the aim of a safe and inclusive space for every body.
Does Jaye Fishel work with chronic illness?
Jaye works with people living with conditions such as chronic fatigue, autoimmune illness, EDS, MS, fibromyalgia and IBS. They say the work does not push through pain, and that sessions can be adapted, for example held online with the camera off or from bed. Jaye also asks that clients already have some baseline support in their lives, such as a doctor, a therapist or a community.
Do sessions with Jaye Fishel count toward Somatic Experiencing certification?
Yes. Jaye is an approved personal-session provider for Somatic Experiencing® students at the Intermediate level. Students should say so at the start of the session so that their session log can be signed.
Is what I share with Jaye Fishel confidential?
Jaye says their work is strictly confidential, covering who a client is, what happens in sessions and what is disclosed. If they meet a client outside a session, they will not be the one to say hello.
